With Ha Noi 1988 Gác Manger, we want to share another side of Vietnamese cuisine: cơm nhà, the food of home.

In Vietnam, cơm nhà is not one particular recipe. It is the everyday family meal: rice accompanied by vegetables, meat, tofu, herbs, pickles, soup or sauces, depending on the day, the region and the family.

Why the Name Ha Noi 1988 Gác Manger?

Behind the name is a small story connecting Vietnam and France. In Vietnamese, the word gác can have several meanings.

Gác lửng refers to a mezzanine or raised space inside a home.

Gác lại means to put something aside or keep it for later.

And gác-măng-rê, derived from the French garde-manger, refers to a cupboard traditionally used in Vietnamese homes to store food and prepared dishes.

Three meanings come together around one idea: home, what we keep, and the pleasure of returning to a meal waiting for us. This is where the story of Ha Noi 1988 Gác Manger begins.
